🎙Mariana: How did your interest in music begin? ⭐️🎤Thomas: Probably from the day I was born. I grew up in showbiz. My father was an opera singer and actor, and there was music around me all the time so it was impossible to not get into that world. But it’s a good place to be:)
🎙Mariana: What bands or artists were your biggest influences?
⭐️🎤Thomas: Kiss was the band that got me into rock music. It was not only music, it was also an act and a spectacle. That appealed to me. Other bands are Queen, Alice Cooper, Beatles, ABBA, Judas Priest, Meat Loaf, Thin Lizzy, and of course a lot of classical music.
🎙Mariana: What was it like for you when you were the keyboardist for the band Talisman?
⭐️🎤Thomas: That was fun. It’s one of the easiest jobs ever. Talisman’s music is absolutely not easy music it’s very complex, but the keyboard parts are very easy, and I realize I was not hired because my keyboard skills but because I could do backing vocals. I have only good memories from that tour and it was a blessing to play together with Marcel Jacob ( RIP)
🎙Mariana: You worked in musical theater in the 1990s. You starred in the opera Hoffman Adventure for a year and played "Juan" in the musical Miss Saigon, What was that experience like for you?
⭐️🎤Thomas: Yes, I did some musical theatre and I love it. I remember Especially Miss Saigon because it was such a huge production. Lately I’ve also participated in Rock Of Ages and The Full Monty.
I love doing musicals because it’s not only music, It’s also acting which I love. Remember when I did Rock Of Ages for 2 years and some person asked: isn’t it boring to do the same show night after night?
No!! Not at all. What other job do you leave everyday with standing ovations?? It’s all great.
🎙Mariana: Since 2011 you has been one of the vocalists for Queen Symphonic Rhapsody, what does it mean to you to perform the same songs that Freddie Mercury sang on stage?
⭐️🎤Thomas: Its an honor. I’ve been doing that show in Spain on and off since 2011. I think I have been to more places in Spain than I’ve been to places in Sweden. We are doing a tour now starting in 2 weeks from now. Queen is one of my favorite bands ever so it’s of course great to sing all this iconic songs.
🎙Mariana: You participated in the fourth part of the rock opera pantalogy Legacy of a Tragedy in the musical piece "Y Judas Traicionó Al Señor.", What was the recording session for that song like for you? How long did you rehearse in Spanish?
⭐️🎤Thomas: That’s a rock opera written by Joaquin Padilla. A fantastic musican from Spain. I just went to Madrid and recorded the songs in Joaquin’s studio. Back then I did not speak Spanish so I wrote the words down fonetically. My part is pretty small in Legado de una tragedia but it’s good stuff!
🎙Mariana: How did you become the first official vocalist of the symphonic metal band Therion?, (because before you joined Therion, vocalists weren't permanent.)
⭐️🎤Thomas: That’s an easy question!!
I had the question and I said "yes", that was if I’m not wrong 2010 and here we are 15 years later… Amazing.
🎙Mariana: Which of the songs you perform with Therion are your favorites to sing live?
⭐️🎤Thomas: Tough one. I don’t think I’m able to answer that 100% truthfully. Because I change my mind all the time. But it’s something magical about going on stage and do ”Rise of Sodom”, not only because it’s a great song, also because of the roar and the crowd going crazy.
🎙Mariana: What is the best tour, or the best concert you remember with Therion?
⭐️🎤Thomas: The best concert with Therion for me is definately Mexico City 2024 with full symphony orchestra. That was pure magic. Then all the tours have been good. Either you are a touring person or you are not. I am. If I can’t tour I become like a horse that are not let out from its stable.
A tour I also remember much is the first tour with my first band Talk Of The Town. I was 18 years old and… that was a wild ride. 😊

⭐️🎤Thomas: Of course great. She was a pro from the beginning and a very independent young woman. We had an agreement: I don’t spy on you and you don’t spy on me:)
And on tour you become more like colleagues than father and daughter. Now she has a huge success in her own with her band Thundermother.
🎙Mariana: Where would you like to sing that you haven't sung yet?
⭐️🎤Thomas: I have a dream of someday do The Phantom Of The Opera. If I have the offer from any country in the world I would go and do it directly.
🎙Mariana: Besides music, do you have any other passions—maybe a sport, or something else you enjoy doing?
⭐️🎤Thomas: Im a huge ice hockey fan and follow everything. Even the Spanish league which is not ( yet) a big ice hockey nation.
I also like fishing. Apart from that I am a pretty lazy person and not ashamed of that. I can easily lay in the sofa for a whole day and watch documentaries or a good serie. I also go to the gym some days a week. I hate it with all my heart, but I must :)

🎙Mariana: ¿Cómo comenzó tu interés por la música?
⭐️🎤Thomas: Probablemente desde el día en que nací. Crecí en el mundo del espectáculo. Mi padre era cantante de ópera y actor, y siempre había música a mi alrededor, así que era imposible no involucrarme en ese mundo. Pero es un lugar maravilloso para estar :)
🎙Mariana: ¿Qué bandas o artistas fueron tus mayores influencias?
⭐️🎤Thomas: Kiss fue la banda que me introdujo en el rock. No era solo música, también era un acto y un espectáculo, y eso me atrajo mucho. Otras bandas son Queen, Alice Cooper, Beatles, ABBA, Judas Priest, Meat Loaf, Thin Lizzy, y por supuesto mucha música clásica.
🎙Mariana: ¿Cómo fue para ti ser el tecladista de la banda Talisman?
⭐️🎤Thomas: Fue divertido. Es uno de los trabajos más fáciles que existen. La música de Talisman no es nada fácil, es muy compleja, pero las partes de teclado son muy sencillas. Y me di cuenta de que no me contrataron por mis habilidades con el teclado, sino porque podía hacer coros. Solo tengo buenos recuerdos de esa gira y fue una bendición tocar junto a Marcel Jacob (RIP).
🎙Mariana: Trabajaste en teatro musical en los años 90. Protagonizaste la ópera Hoffman Adventure durante un año y interpretaste a "Juan" en el musical Miss Saigon. ¿Cómo fue esa experiencia para ti?
⭐️🎤Thomas: Sí, hice algo de teatro musical y me encanta. Recuerdo especialmente Miss Saigon porque fue una producción enorme. Más recientemente también participé en Rock of Ages y The Full Monty.
Me encanta hacer musicales porque no es solo música, también es actuación, y eso me fascina. Recuerdo que cuando hice Rock of Ages durante 2 años, alguien me preguntó: ¿No es aburrido hacer el mismo show noche tras noche?
¡No! Para nada. ¿Qué otro trabajo te deja todos los días con ovaciones de pie?, es increíble!!
🎙Mariana: Desde 2011 has sido uno de los vocalistas de Queen Symphonic Rhapsody. ¿Qué significa para ti interpretar las mismas canciones que Freddie Mercury cantaba en el escenario?
⭐️🎤Thomas: Es un honor. He estado haciendo ese show en España intermitentemente desde 2011. Creo que he visitado más lugares en España que en Suecia. Ahora estamos por hacer una gira que comienza dentro de dos semanas. Queen es una de mis bandas favoritas, así que, por supuesto, es increíble cantar todas esas canciones icónicas.
🎙Mariana: Participaste en la cuarta parte de la ópera rock Legacy of a Tragedy en la pieza musical "Y Judas Traicionó Al Señor". ¿Cómo fue para ti la sesión de grabación de esa canción? ¿Cuánto tiempo ensayaste en español?
⭐️🎤Thomas: Esa es una ópera rock escrita por Joaquín Padilla, un músico fantástico de España. Solo fui a Madrid y grabé las canciones en el estudio de Joaquín. En ese entonces no hablaba español, así que escribí las palabras fonéticamente. Mi parte es bastante pequeña en Legado de una tragedia, ¡pero es material genial!
🎙Mariana: ¿Cómo te convertiste en el primer vocalista oficial de la banda de metal sinfónico Therion? (Porque antes de que te unieras, los vocalistas no eran permanentes.)
⭐️🎤Thomas: ¡Esa es fácil!
Me hicieron la propuesta y dije que sí. Si no me equivoco, fue en 2010, y aquí estamos, 15 años después… Increíble.
🎙Mariana: ¿Cuáles de las canciones que interpretas con Therion son tus favoritas para cantar en vivo?
⭐️🎤Thomas: Difícil elección. No creo poder responder con total sinceridad, porque cambio de opinión todo el tiempo. Pero hay algo mágico en subir al escenario y hacer "Rise of Sodom", no solo porque es una gran canción, sino por el rugido y la locura del público.
🎙Mariana: ¿Cuál ha sido la mejor gira o el mejor concierto que recuerdas con Therion?
⭐️🎤Thomas: El mejor concierto con Therion para mí fue definitivamente en Ciudad de México 2024 con la orquesta sinfónica completa. Eso fue pura magia. Después, todas las giras han sido buenas. O eres una persona de giras o no lo eres. Yo sí lo soy. Si no puedo girar, me siento como un caballo que no puede salir de su establo.
Una gira que también recuerdo mucho fue la primera con mi primera banda, Talk of the Town. Tenía 18 años y… fue una locura 😊
🎙Mariana: ¿Cómo ha sido para ti compartir escenario con tu hija Linnea?
⭐️🎤Thomas: Por supuesto, genial. Desde el principio fue una profesional y una joven muy independiente. Tuvimos un acuerdo: yo no te espío y tú no me espías :)
en la gira, llegas a ser más colegas que padre e hija. Ahora ella tiene un enorme éxito propio con su banda Thundermother.
🎙Mariana: ¿Dónde te gustaría cantar que aún no hayas cantado?
⭐️🎤Thomas: Sueño con algún día hacer El Fantasma de la Ópera. Si recibo una oferta de cualquier país del mundo, iría y lo haría de inmediato.
🎙Mariana: Además de la música, ¿Tienes otras pasiones—tal vez un deporte o algo más que disfrutes hacer?
⭐️🎤Thomas: Soy un gran fanático del hockey sobre hielo y sigo todo. Incluso la liga española, que aún no es (todavía) una gran nación de hockey.
También me gusta pescar. Aparte de eso, soy bastante perezoso y no me avergüenza. Puedo tirarme en el sofá todo un día viendo documentales o una buena serie. También voy al gimnasio algunos días a la semana. Lo odio con todo mi corazón, pero debo hacerlo :)
