🎙Mariana: How did your interest in music begin at such an early age?,I read that you were already into it at the age of 3.
🥁Björn:
I was already into music at that age! Totally into music already. It was mostly pots and pans at that age but I got my first real drumkit when I was 5 years old.
🎙Mariana: Which musicians or bands were your main influences?
🥁Björn:
My dad was a musician so I was early exposed to great 60:s and 70:s music. There was Elvis, Bee Gees, Beatles, ABBA, Paul Simon ... and then I saw a KISS poster in 1977 and it was a done deal. Right then I knew what I had to do.
🎙Mariana: In 1990 you founded the band Hoven Droven. How was the experience of being nominated for a Swedish Grammis in 2006 for the live album Jumping at The Cedar” of Hoven Droven?
🥁Björn:
That was pretty cool! I had secretly recorded a show in Minneapolis, no one in the band knew, and then I took the recording and mixed it in my old bedroom. I gave it to the guys as a christmas gift. Our record company at the time liked it so much that they put it out and we got a Grammy nomination. Just like that!
🎙 Mariana: What does the alias “Grizzly” Höglund mean to you, the name you use when performing with Easy Action?
🥁Björn: To be honest that was all Zinny Zan´s idea. He came up with it and started using it, and then it kinda stuck. “Grizzly” of course referes to the Grizzly bear ...and the meaning of "Björn" is bear.
🎙 Mariana: Many people know you as a drummer and performer, but you also have important recognition as a songwriter with gold and platinum awards. What does this more creative, studio side of your work mean to you?
🥁Björn:
A lot. Songwriting was just something I naturally slipped into. It was a pretty big revelation realising that I could actually do it! Same with production. It always attracted me but I was always in need of an engineer (I still am in some cases), so I simply bought a computer out of necessity and started to work. Trial and error. Lots of errors ...
🎙 Mariana: Do you have any hobbies, interests in sports, or are you a fan of something outside of music?
🥁Björn: I’m a bit of a movie geek. But other than that it´s all music or music related hobbies. I have a pretty big vinyl collection.

🎙 Mariana: Is there a place (country, stadium, or club) where you haven’t played live yet, but would love to?
🥁Björn: Many, but I´ll just say Madison Square Garden and Budokan .. KISS-fans would know. ;)
🎙Mariana: What challenges do you see in today’s rock/metal scene, and how does an experienced musician like you face them?
🥁Björn: Well there are many if you compare the business to what it used to be. I honestly think that these days you have to make it up as you go along. All bets are off since there really is no music business anymore. At least not for the smaller or semi big bands. You can dive into talks about social media or A.I but the biggest challenge is to make people value what we do. Most people take music for granted.
🎙Mariana: What specifications or features does a drum kit need to have for it to be ideal in your view?
🥁Björn: That is highly personal to every drummer. I use many different set ups depending on the task at hand. My sound is very different if you compare a Hoven Droven album or the last Therion albums. I´m just not one of those drummers that has one kit or set up. I vary sounds and hopefully my personality comes across in my playing instead of sounds.

🎙 Mariana: What has been the most incredible or wonderful moment of your career?
🥁Björn: Luckily I have too many to mention them all .. But I am really proud of Hoven Droven and the longivity we have. 30 plus years and we are still traveling the world. Our last album gave us another Grammy nomination! I really wanted a gold or platinum album at one point and I ended up with several. The first cymbal I bought with my own money was a Paiste crash cymbal. I was nine years old, and the a few years back I got a Paiste endorsement. To be able to call myself a Paiste Artist is a big full circle for me! Also having met and played with many people I idolized growing up... but mostly I am proud of being able to make a living out of the dreams I had as a kid.
🎙 Mariana: What can you tell us about your current work with the band The Summit and what’s coming up next?
🥁Björn: Well .. The Summit was my brain child and and we sort of put that on hiatus a few years back. But we are all good friends and we wrote a lot of music that was never recorded. I have a feeling we Will get back to that at some point. I am currently working with new Easy Action stuff so hopefully we will have a release in 2026 to co-inside with the 40:th anniversary of the “That Makes One” album. We recently announced a first festival date and there might be more to come... I’m also exited to be playing drums on the new 220 Volt album that will be out next year. They were my hometown heroes when I grew up and we have become good friends over the years. So filling in for Peter on drums is a big honor for me.

🎙 Mariana: ¿Cómo es que comienzas a interesarte por la musica a tan temprana edad?, Leí que ya te gustaba desde los 3 años.
🥁 Björn: Ya estaba totalmente metido en la música a los 3 años! a esa edad era principalmente con ollas y sartenes, pero conseguí mi primer set de batería de verdad cuando tenía 5 años.
🎙 Mariana: ¿Qué músicos o bandas fueron tus principales influencias?
🥁 Björn: Mi papá era músico, así que desde temprana edad estuve expuesto a la gran música de los 60 y 70. Estaban Elvis, Bee Gees, Beatles, ABBA, Paul Simon… y luego vi un póster de KISS en 1977 y fue definitivo. En ese momento supe lo que tenía que hacer.
🎙 Mariana: En 1990 fundaste la banda Hoven Droven. ¿Cómo fue la experiencia de ser nominado a un Grammis sueco en 2006 por el álbum en vivo “Jumping at The Cedar”?
🥁 Björn: ¡Fue genial! Grabé un show en Minneapolis en secreto, nadie en la banda lo sabía, y luego tomé la grabación y la mezclé en mi viejo cuarto. Se lo di a los chicos como regalo de Navidad. A nuestra discográfica de ese momento le gustó tanto que lo lanzó y recibimos una nominación al Grammy. ¡Así de simple!
🎙 Mariana: ¿Qué significa para ti el alias “Grizzly” Höglund?,el nombre que usas cuando tocas con Easy Action.
🥁 Björn: Para ser honesto, todo fue idea de Zinny Zan. Él lo inventó y empezó a usarlo, y luego de algún modo se quedó. “Grizzly” por supuesto se refiere al oso grizzly… y el significado de “Björn” es oso.
🎙 Mariana: Mucha gente te conoce como baterista y performer, pero también tienes un reconocimiento importante como compositor con premios de oro y platino. ¿Qué significa para ti este lado más creativo y de estudio de tu trabajo?
🥁 Björn: Mucho. Componer canciones fue algo en lo que caí de manera natural. Fue toda una revelación darme cuenta de que en realidad podía hacerlo. Lo mismo con la producción. Siempre me atrajo, pero siempre necesitaba un ingeniero (todavía en algunos casos), así que simplemente compré una computadora por necesidad y empecé a trabajar. Ensayo y error. Muchos errores…
🎙 Mariana: ¿Tienes hobbies, intereses deportivos, o eres fan de algo fuera de la música?
🥁 Björn: Soy un poco fanático del cine. Pero fuera de eso, todo son hobbies relacionados con la música. Tengo una colección bastante grande de vinilos.
🎙 Mariana: ¿Hay algún lugar (país, estadio o club) donde no hayas tocado en vivo todavía, pero te encantaría hacerlo?
🥁 Björn: Muchos, pero solo diré Madison Square Garden y Budokan… los fans de KISS sabrán. ;)
🎙 Mariana: ¿Qué desafíos ves en la escena del rock/metal actual, y cómo los enfrenta un músico experimentado como tú?
🥁 Björn: Bueno, hay muchos si comparas el negocio con lo que solía ser. Honestamente creo que hoy en día hay que improvisar sobre la marcha. No hay reglas porque realmente ya no hay negocio musical. Al menos no para bandas pequeñas o medianas. Podrías entrar en conversaciones sobre redes sociales o IA, pero el mayor desafío es hacer que la gente valore lo que hacemos. La mayoría da la música por sentada.
🎙 Mariana: ¿Qué especificaciones o características debe tener un set de batería para que sea ideal según tu opinión?
🥁 Björn: Eso es muy personal para cada baterista. Uso muchos setups diferentes dependiendo de la tarea. Mi sonido es muy distinto si comparas un álbum de Hoven Droven con los últimos de Therion. Simplemente no soy de esos bateristas que tienen un solo kit o setup. Varío los sonidos y espero que mi personalidad se perciba en mi interpretación más que en los sonidos.
🎙 Mariana: ¿Cuál ha sido el momento más increíble o maravilloso de tu carrera?
🥁 Björn: Por suerte tengo demasiados como para mencionarlos todos… Pero estoy muy orgulloso de Hoven Droven y de la longevidad que tenemos. Más de 30 años y todavía seguimos viajando por el mundo. ¡Nuestro último álbum nos dio otra nominación al Grammy! Realmente quería un disco de oro o platino en algún momento y terminé con varios. El primer platillo que compré con mi propio dinero fue un crash de Paiste. Tenía nueve años, y hace unos años conseguí un endorsement con Paiste. ¡Poder llamarme 'Paiste Artist' es un gran círculo completo para mí! También he tenido la oportunidad de conocer y tocar con muchas personas a las que idolatraba de niño… pero sobre todo estoy orgulloso de poder ganarme la vida con los sueños que tenía de chico.

sobre tu trabajo actual con la banda y qué viene después?
🥁 Björn: Bueno… The Summit fue idea mía y lo pusimos en pausa hace algunos años. Pero todos somos buenos amigos y escribimos mucha música que nunca se grabó. Tengo la sensación de que volveremos a eso en algún momento. Actualmente estoy trabajando en material nuevo de Easy Action, así que espero que tengamos un lanzamiento en 2026 para coincidir con el 40º aniversario del álbum “That Makes One”. Recientemente anunciamos la primera fecha de festival y podrían venir más… También estoy emocionado de tocar la batería en el nuevo álbum de 220 Volt que saldrá el próximo año. Eran mis héroes de mi ciudad natal cuando crecí y con los años nos hicimos buenos amigos. Así que reemplazar a Peter en la batería es un gran honor para mí.
