🎙Mariana: How did you get started with music?
🎸Danny Veras: It happened in Spain when I was about 11 years old and living with my mom and sister in a small town near Barcelona. There was a guitar lying in a corner of the apartment that belonged to my sister, but it was more of a decorative object because my sister didn't play it at all. So at the school where I studied, there was a guy who brought his amp and electric guitar and started playing heavy metal anthems like "Kings Of Metal" by Manowar, "Hell's Bells" by AC/DC, and "Back In Black." Those are some of the songs I remember, so after listening to that guy, after school I would grab my sister's guitar and start messing around with it, and that's how it all started. A year later, I finally bought my first electric guitar after working at my aunt's shop during the summer months in Madrid. At the time, I was a huge fan of Iron Maiden, Ozzy Osbourne, Helloween, Manowar, Anthrax, Metallica, Megadeth, AC/DC, and many other bands like that. There wasn't an easy way to learn like there is today with the internet and YouTube, so we exchanged ideas with friends or simply tried to replicate some song rhythms. I also listened to some Spanish bands like Barón Rojo and Sangre Azul, but I always ended up listening to more English or American music.
🎙What other musical genres did you have to explore to be able to turn your passion for music into a job?
🎸In addition to listening to all kinds of hard rock, heavy metal, and even blues for many years, I discovered other styles and realized that being a musician was something much broader than just playing a few musical genres. If I wanted to make a living from music, I had to learn to play a little bit of everything, even some things that might not be my favorites. That was the best decision for me, since I needed to play live, and although it's hard to say, metal probably wasn't the most requested music for shows in the places where I had the chance to perform. So I understood that I needed to be versatile to get work as a musician, and I adapted to achieve it.
🎙Mariana: What impact did living in different countries from a young age have on your career?
🎸Danny Veras: I think what really helped me become a musical nomad all these years was that I was able to speak different languages and communicate with different people from all over the world. I think if I hadn't known English, coming to the US would have been much more difficult, but I was already a singer in Spain, and 95% of my repertoire was already in English, so that was definitely an advantage for starting over. Living in Switzerland was also a great experience, and I would never have achieved what I did if I hadn't spoken the language. Communication is a big factor in all of this... It definitely helps!
🎙Mariana: In what year and with what professional expectations did you move to the U.S.?
🎸Danny Veras: I arrived in the United States in 2003 to see where destiny would take me, and luckily, I joined a band just two weeks after arriving: "7Months," with whom I recorded the second album, In Time. We played progressive metal and played in many clubs in Los Angeles and nearby towns. They asked me to stay in the band as they liked my voice very much so I stayed and we started playing some shows in the serie like Palmdale or Acton Pasadena, Simi Valley and we ended up playing also at the BB King's club in Los Angeles at the Universal City area in 2005. I finished recording the vocals for album In Time which had very good critics in all the online websites of that genre which is the progressive metal. The band previously had an album with a different singer, and I had to learn all the songs from the first album, including some covers from Kansas Jefferson, Starship, Whitesnake and I even recorded a song by Journey which was the first recording with it together, the guys from the band 7Months were extremely well trained as most of them went to the musicians institute in Hollywood. In 2005 I got into a complications with my voice due to an incident that happened with another person who almost took my life and left severe injuries in my throat, I had to stop singing for a year and still was a long road to recover, but I never gave up, in fact, when I started my solo career the name of my first album was inspired by this and I called it Never Give Up. I didn't know if I was able to sing again, but I continued to achieve my goals and my dreams.
My last record it’s called Can’t Stop The Rock and was released in April this year. It contains 12 songs. I composed most of the songs with Paul Sabu, except the song "Can’t Stop The Rock" that was co-written with Paul Sabu and Frankie Banali (Quiet Riot, W.A.S.P, Billi Idol), Linkan Anderson (Tony Mills, Secret Society, Methods of Mayhem), recorded all the lead Guitars, Paul Sabu did all the back vocals and rhythm Guitars, my friend JC Vazz on keyboard, Kent Blankenship on Drums, Barry Sparks on Bass (UFO, Vinnie Moore, Yngwie, Mitchael Shenker). In November last year I flew with JC to Los Angeles to do a video for one of the songs of the album "Rich Woman" that was directed by Éric Boadella, I called some of my Los Angeles friends to appear in the video like Nolan Richards, who is actually playing drums for Marco Mendoza right now on tour in Europe, the amazing Ivy Ferguson ¡A rock diva! was being previously featured also on one of the bulletboys music vids Ofer Holan. An amazing guitar virtuoso who was available to play the role of the bass player for my video and then my good old friend Barry Magnuson who used to play drums in 7Months and also the three-piece band “LA Holeshot” that we had, who played the role of the cop in the video… and amazingly, my good friend Bob Belfiore, who came from Naples to see how we did The video he was asked to be featured at the end of the video as well, in the Private jet Scene! Very happy with the results of the video. Èric Boadella is well known for making music videos for most of the bands at frontiers Records, and he actually released a short movie with Danny Trejo that was released last week. It’s called Magic Meat which Paul is also featured on the music soundtrack.
🎙Mariana: Do you have any other activities besides music?
🎸Danny Veras: I try to maintain a good physical activity routine to take care of my image and stay healthy. Right now, I don't have much time since I have shows every day. It's a mini-tour of continuous shows that I've been doing for a while now, and although what I play in those shows isn't always rock, I'm very happy with it. It gives me a lot of satisfaction and keeps me constantly moving. However, I fully intend to be part of a rock band as soon as the opportunity arises.
🎙Mariana: How would you organize yourself right now if, in addition to this continuous tour you're telling me about, the chance to join a new band arose?
🎸Danny Veras: Of course the band would be a top priority! I would commit to the project, give it my all, and I know it will be wonderful. I adapt very quickly to everything.
🎸Danny Veras: One of the most amazing and wonderful things that happened to me in my career was that the song "Can't Stop The Rock" was written by Paul Sabu and was initially intended for my album, but was eventually released for Quiet Riot on their album "10" with Jizzy Pearl on vocals. Then Paul gave me the song to complete the album, and I have to say it's one of my favorites. I say it's both strange and wonderful because it's a band I've always loved, and knowing that musicians I admire have chosen the same song as me for their album is a huge thing for me. One of the most incredible things that has happened to me in life is that I was able to meet most of my idols and even work with them at some point. I can say it's incredible to have achieved that here in the United States, and that I'm still doing it.

🎙Mariana: ¿Cómo fueron tus comienzos con la música?
🎸Danny Veras: Ocurrió en España cuando tenía unos 11 años y vivía con mi madre y mi hermana, en un pueblito cerca de Barcelona. Había una guitarra tirada en un rincón del apartamento que pertenecía a mi hermana, pero era más bien un objeto decorativo porque mi hermana no la tocaba en absoluto, así que en el colegio donde yo estudiaba había un chico que traía su amplificador y su guitarra eléctrica y empezó a tocar himnos de heavy metal como "Kings of Metal" de Manowar, "Hell's Bells" de AC/DC o "Back in Black". Esas son algunas de las canciones que recuerdo, así que después de escuchar a ese chico, cuando volvia de la escuela agarraba la guitarra de mi hermana y empezaba a trastear con ella, y así empezó todo. Un año después finalmente compré mi primera guitarra eléctrica después de trabajar en la tienda de mi tía durante los meses de verano en Madrid, en ese momento era un gran fan de Iron Maiden, Ozzy Osbourne, Helloween, Manowar, Anthrax, Metallica, Megadeth, AC/DC y muchas otras bandas así. No había una manera fácil de aprender como hoy con Internet y YouTube, así que intercambiábamos ideas entre amigos o simplemente intentábamos replicar algunos ritmos de canciones.
También escuchaba algunas bandas españolas como Barón Rojo y Sanger Azul, pero siempre terminaba escuchando más música inglesa o estadounidense.
🎙¿Que otros géneros musicales debiste explorar para poder convertir tu pasión por la música en un trabajo?
🎸Además de escuchar todo tipo de hard rock, heavy metal o incluso blues durante muchos años, terminé por descubrir otros estilos y me di cuenta de que ser músico era algo mucho más amplio que solo tocar algunos generos musicales, si queria vivir de la música debia aprender a tocar un poco de todo, incluso algunas cosas que podrian no ser mis favoritas, pero esa fue la decisión más correcta para mí, ya que necesitaba tocar en vivo, y auque es dificil de decirlo, el metal probablemente no era la música más solicitada para los shows en los lugares en los que yo tenía la chance de hacer presentaciones, así que entendí que necesitaba ser versátil para conseguir trabajo como músico y me adapté para lograrlo.
🎙Mariana: ¿Qué impacto tuvo en tu carrera vivir en diferentes países desde muy joven?
🎸Danny Veras: Creo que lo que realmente me ayudó a convertirme en un nómada musical durante todos estos años fue que pude hablar diferentes idiomas y comunicarme con diferentes personas de todo el mundo. Creo que si no hubiera sabido inglés, venir a Estados Unidos habría sido mucho más difícil, pero ya era cantante en España y el 95% de mi repertorio ya estaba en inglés, así que eso fue sin duda una ventaja para empezar de nuevo. Vivir en Suiza también fue una gran experiencia y nunca habría logrado lo que logré si no hubiera hablado el idioma. La comunicación es un factor importante en todo esto... ¡Definitivamente ayuda!
🎙Mariana: ¿En qué año y con qué expectativas profesionales te mudaste a Estados Unidos?
🎸Danny Veras: Llegué a Estados Unidos en 2003 para ver adónde me llevaría el destino y, por suerte, me uní a una banda apenas dos semanas después de estar aquí: "7Months", con la que grabé el segundo álbum, In Time. Tocábamos metal progresivo y tocábamos en muchos clubes de Los Ángeles y pueblos cercanos. Como dije antes, cuando llegué a Los Ángeles, conocí a los chicos de la banda 7Months y me pidieron que me quedara porque les gustaba mucho mi voz Así que me quedé y empezamos a tocar una de conciertos en Palmdale, Acton, Pasadena y Simi Valley, y terminamos tocando también en el club BB King's de Los Ángeles, en la zona de Universal City, en 2005. Terminé de grabar las voces para In Time, que tuvo muy buenas críticas en todos los sitios web en línea de ese género que es el metal progresivo. La banda anteriormente tenía un álbum con un cantante diferente, y tuve que aprenderme todas las canciones del primer álbum, incluyendo algunas versiones de Kansas Jefferson, Starship, Whitesnake e incluso grabé una canción de Journey que fue la primera grabación con ellos juntos, los chicos de la banda 7Months estaban extremadamente bien entrenados ya que la mayoría de ellos fueron al instituto de músicos en Hollywood.
En el 2005 tuve complicaciones con mi voz debido a un incidente que paso con otra persona que casi me quita la vida y me dejo severas heridas en la garganta, tuve que dejar de cantar por un año y fue un largo camino para recuperarme, pero nunca me rendí, de hecho cuando comencé mi carrera como solista el nombre de mi primer disco se inspiró en esto y lo llamé Never Give Up, no sabía si era capaz de volver a cantar, pero seguí logrando mis metas y mis sueños.
🎙Mariana: ¿Cuáles son tus canciones favoritas para tocar en vivo dentro de los discos que has lanzado hasta ahora?
🎸Danny Veras: Tengo tres álbumes grabados con el productor Paul Sabu. El primero, Never Give Up, tuvo muy buenas críticas; canciones como "Hell Rider", "Road Runner", "Running Away", "Hammer Down" o "Light Up My Life" tienen estribillos muy pegadizos. Excelentes guitarras de Thorsten Koehne (Eden's Curse, Sunstorm, Demon Drive), Eric Ragno a los teclados (Trixter, Paul Stanley, Jimi Jamison), Pete Newdeck a la batería (Grim Reaper, Paul Di'anno... Eden's Curse).
El segundo álbum es un poco especial y me gusta mucho, aunque tengo que admitir que no compuse ninguna canción en este. Es por eso que se llama Under the influence. Estas son canciones que tocaría al azar si estuviera de gira, si hubiera una canción que tocaría todos los días de ese álbum, sería "Binded", que fue escrita por Paul Sabu y también grabó en su álbum banshee!, Pero tengo un arsenal de trituradores de guitarra en "It all" conocido por estar en bandas como Winger, Talisman, Stryper es el increíble Howie Simon, luego Gary Schutt también tocó con Jeff Scott Soto, Tommy Lafferty (From The fire, Crown Of Thorns, Jean Beauvoir), Chris Risola (miembro fundador de Steelheart), Dennis Churchill Dries, que es uno de mis cantantes favoritos, mejor conocido por su trabajo en Tattoo Rodeo y White Sister.
Mi último disco se titula Can't Stop The Rock y se lanzó en abril de este año. Contiene 12 canciones. Compuse la mayoría de las canciones junto a Paul Sabu, excepto "Can't Stop The Rock", esta, coescrita con Paul Sabu y Frankie Banali (Quiet Riot, W.A.S.P, Billi Idol). Linkan Anderson (Tony Mills, Secret Society, Methods of Mayhem) grabó todas las guitarras principales, Paul Sabu hizo los coros y la guitarra rítmica, mi amigo JC Vazz al teclado, Kent Blankenship a la batería y Barry Sparks al bajo (UFO, Vinnie Moore, Yngwie, Mitchael Shenker).

🎙Mariana: ¿Tienes otras actividades además de la música?
🎸Danny Veras: Intento mantener una buena rutina de actividad física para cuidar mi imagen y mantenerme saludable. Ahora mismo, no tengo mucho tiempo, ya que tengo conciertos todos los días. Es una minigira de shows continuos que llevo haciendo desde hace un tiempo, y aunque lo que toco en esos shows no siempre es rock, estoy muy contento. Me da mucha satisfacción y me mantiene en constante movimiento, sin embargo, tengo toda la intención de formar parte de una banda de rock en cuanto surja la oportunidad.
🎙Mariana: ¿Cómo te organizarías ahora mismo si, además de esta gira continua de la que me hablas, surgiera la oportunidad de unirte a una nueva banda?
🎸Danny Veras: ¡Claro que la banda sería mi prioridad! Me comprometería con el proyecto, lo daría todo, y sé que será maravilloso. Me adapto rapidísimo a todo.
🎙Mariana: ¿Qué es lo más increíble o extraño que te ha sucedido en tu carrera?
🎸Danny Veras: Una de las cosas más increíbles y maravillosas que me pasó en mi carrera fue que la canción "Can't Stop The Rock" fue escrita por Paul Sabu y en un inicio se pensó para mi album, pero finalmente fue lanzada para Quiet Riot en su álbum "10" con la voz de Jizzy Pearl. Luego Paul me dio la canción para completar el álbum y debo decir que es una de mis favoritas. Digo que es algo extraño y tambien maravilloso porque es una banda que ame siempre y saber que musicos que admiro hayan elegido la misma canción que yo para su album es algo muy grande para mi. Una de las cosas más increíbles que me ha pasado en la vida es que pude conocer a la mayoría de mis ídolos e incluso trabajar con ellos en algún momento. Puedo decir que es increíble haberlo logrado aquí en Estados Unidos y que todavía lo sigo haciendo.
