welcome to this interview where it will be great to know a little more about your career. My first question is: How did you get started with music?
🎸Thorsten: I´ve always been fascinated with music since I can think of. In the beginning it has been mostly electronic music like Jean Michel Jarre, Tangerine Dream or Klaus Schulze. I´ve always been a big science fiction fan and that electronic music was the soundtrack to it. When I was around 10 years old I heard rock music for the first time and that powerful overdriven sound of the electric guitar immediately got me hooked for life.
🎙Mariana: What was your first musical instrument?
🎸Thorsten: My first musical instrument was a no name Fender style electric guitar that my parents got me for my birthday. A few month later I got the matching combo amplifier to it. It had 10 watts and two knobs … volume and tone.
🎙Mariana: What artists and bands were your main influences?
🎸Thorsten: Hearing Brian May's guitar sound on the track “Now I'm here” along with the band Queen was really my first major influence. Later came players like Santana, Andy Summers and of course Van Halen.
🎙Mariana: Who composes the music you play?
🎸Thorsten: In the band Eden`s Curse it's primarily bassist Paul Logue, drummer Pete Newdeck and myself who write the songs. Each of us incorporates our compositional strenghts into the songwriting.
🎙Mariana: Which of the songs you play is your favorite?
🎸Thorsten: That's difficult to say since every song has something special to it. In a live situation I really like the song “Unbreakable”. It's fast and fun to play and always seems to get the audience going.

🎙Mariana: Although you started music quite young, at what point do you feel your career took off, what was that big first step toward getting to where you are today as an artist?
🎸Thorsten: Without a doubt after releasing the album with "Attack" because my experience in the studio and live at that time caught the attention of DEAN GUITARS, the company decided to sponsor me, and played at clinics in Europe and USA including the World famous NAMM show in Los Angeles.
🎙Mariana: In addition to the stages, we know that you have stood out as a talented studio musician, you even recorded with the legend Joe Lynn Turner, How has that experience been for you?
🎸Thorsten: I worked for his album Sunstorm "House Of Dream", I never meet him in person, he recorded vocals in his studio in New York and I recorded the guitars tracks in my studio here in Germany. I was only in contact with his producer Dennis Ward who has been producing all EC albums as well. The great thing for me was though that he recorded his vocals after I've been recording guitars and you can hear him phrasing his vocals around Ritchie Blackmore's and Yngwie Malmsteen's guitar lines. He must have liked my playing.... [laughters]
🎙Mariana: Let's say you could share the stage with a band you admire, which one would you choose?
🎸Thorsten: We already did this on tour with the incredible Dream Theater!!!
🎙Mariana: Is there anything very "German" or "not German" that you can't do without, even when you go on tour?
🎸Thorsten: I try not to think im stereotypes so I'm not really sure what is considered German or not German. When I'm on tour I embrace the culture of the country I'm touring in... so, exotic foods and drinks are alwas welcome, but maybe there's a certain kind of bread that I like called "Black Bread" (Schwarz Brot in German), that seems hard to get in others countries.
🎙Thanks 'TK', I want to thank you for giving us this interview and sharing some more of your talent with the audience, it was really great!

🎙Mariana: What do you
think about the impact of streaming on the music industry?
🎸Thorsten: Well these days I can only urge music fans around the world to keep buying CDs if they want their favourite band to be able to continue making their favourite music. Streaming kills music!

Interview with Thorsten Koehne conducted by Mariana Luzuriaga
TRADUCCION A ESPAÑOL
