INTERVIEW WITH ANDERS HAGA

🎙Mariana: Welcome to the interview and my first question is: How did your interest in music  begin? 

🎸Anders: I was very interested in nusic from an early age.

My dad is a great jazz musician so I probably got my music interest from him.

🎙Mariana: What was your first musical instrument? 

🎸Anders: My first instrument was the drums. When my brother Peter (who is the drummer in Black Rose), started to play drums and eventually he got better than me, I changed to guitar.

Some years later I picked up the bass because that felt more natural to me.

Bass is a kind of a mix between drums and guitar. You have the rhythm of the drums and the riffs and melodies from a guitar.

🎙Mariana: What artists and bands were your main influences? 

🎸Anders: The first band I listened to was The Sweet but, I  soon started listening to KISS.

I have a lot of different influences from different styles of music, but as far as the bass players go, it's mainly Marcel 

Jacob (Europe/ Yngwie Malmsteen/ Talisman/ Last Autumn's Dream), and Billy Sheehan (Mr. Big, Steve Vai, David Lee Roth, The Winery Dogs).

 

🎙Mariana: What main  features should be a bass for you?

🎸Anders: The bass should  be light, comfortable and cool.

🎙Mariana: Who composes the music you play? 

🎸Anders: Everyone in Black Rose composes the music We play. We come up with ideas and try different ideas until everyone is satisfied with the songs.

It doesn't matter who writes the songs, it's the best song ideas that wins.

🎙Mariana: Which of the songs you play is your favorite? 

🎸Anders: Since we have a new album out (The Mirror), the songs from that album are my favorites, example: the song "Dualities".

🎙Mariana: What's your routine like on the days you play live? Let's say, how long before the show do you start rehearsing and checking out the instruments? What are those hours before the show like for you?

🎸Anders: We rehearse for a while before the concert to make sure everything sounds the way we want. I always warm up on the bass before a show. Let's just say I prepare; that's what I usually do.

🎙Mariana: Let's say you could share the stage with a band you admire, which one would you choose? 

🎸Anders: KISS would be my choice!!! 

🎙Mariana: Could you tell me what is the most incredible or unexpected thing that has happened to you in your career?

🎸Anders: We did a show with Kee Marcello (Europe) in a church with a large choir. We played only songs from Europe. We thought it would be a small show, but the church was packed with people, some couldn't even get in. It was incredible!

🎙Mariana: ¿Cómo comenzó tu interés en  la música?
🎸Anders: Desde muy pequeño me interesó mucho la música. Mi padre es un gran músico de jazz, así que probablemente heredé mi interés por la música de él.

🎙Mariana: ¿Cuál fue tu primer instrumento musical?
🎸Anders: Mi primer instrumento fue la batería, pero cuando mi hermano Peter (baterista de Black Rose) empezó a tocar la batería, con el tiempo se volvió mejor que yo y entonces cambié a la guitarra. Unos años después, empecé a tocar el bajo porque me resultaba más natural. El bajo es una especie de mezcla entre la batería y la guitarra. Tienes el ritmo de la batería y los riffs y melodías de la guitarra.


🎙Mariana: ¿Qué artistas y bandas fueron tus principales influencias?
🎸Anders: La primera banda que escuché fue The Sweet, pero pronto cambié a KISS. Tengo muchas influencias de distintos estilos musicales, pero en cuanto a bajistas, principalmente Marcel Jacob (Europe/ Yngwie Malmsteen/ Talismán/ Last Autumn's Dream)  y Billy  Sheehan ( Mr. Big, Steve Vai, David Lee Roth, The Winery Dogs)

🎙Mariana: ¿Quién compone la música que tocan?
🎸Anders: Todos en Black Rose componemos la música que tocamos. Probamos ideas diferentes hasta que todos estamos satisfechos con las canciones. No importa quién las escriba, las mejores ideas son las que triunfan.


🎙Mariana: ¿Cuál de todas las canciones que tocas es tu favorita?
🎸 Anders: Desde que tenemos un nuevo álbum (The Mirror), las canciones de ese álbum son mis favoritas, por ejemplo "Dualities".

🎙Mariana: ¿Cómo es tu rutina los días que tocas en vivo? Digamos, ¿cuántas tiempo antes del concierto empiezas a ensayar y a revisar los instrumentos? ¿Cómo son esas horas antes del concierto para ti?
🎸Anders: Los ensayos los hacemos un rato antes del concierto para que todo suene como queremos. Siempre caliento con el bajo antes de un show, digamos que me voy preparando, eso es lo que hago. 

🎙Mariana: Supongamos que pudieras compartir escenario con una banda que admiras, ¿cuál elegirías?
🎸Anders: KISS sería mi elección, sin dudas!

🎙Mariana: ¿Puedes decirme qué es lo más increíble o inesperado que te ha sucedido  en tu carrera?
🎸 Anders: Tocamos un concierto con Kee Marcello (Europe) en una iglesia con un coro enorme. Tocamos solo canciones de Europe, pensamos que era algo pequeño pero la  iglesia se abarrotó de gente,  algunos ni siquiera pudieron entrar, fue increíble!
